Interventions to remedy undue influence are gut wrenching events for everyone involved. No one tends to enjoy telling someone they care about to change his ways or his mind or that his cherished beliefs are bogus. Less enjoyable is convincing the person under influence to sit through several days of "educational" and at times confrontational dialog. Cult exit counseling in a voluntary process usually takes several days of 10 to 16 hours a day of open dialog and information sharing to succeed.
Below is an example of a successful intervention with a man in Trinidad who was deeply committed to Ramtha School of Enlightenment just three days prior to this interview posted on youtube. "Douglas" was about to leave his business, his two children and wife in 1990 to move to Yelm, WA because he feared catastrophic events predicted by Ramtha, an imaginary entity channeled by J Z Knight.
His family introduced my partner and I to him by surpirse. Through the encouragement of a family therapist, he agreed to talk with us. He agreed to the interview on the 4rth day of intervention after he was completely free of Ramtha.
Today in 2011, he's happily engaged in business in Trinidad and well-connected to his family.
